Its assets include ownership or equity interest in primary elevators and producer car loading sites, shortline railways, grain terminals, transfer elevators and bulk storage facilities. It is also involved in grain trading in Eastern and Western Canada.

The Soumat name is derived from its core business activities: sourcing, marketing and transportation.

Soumat is part of the Upper Lakes Group Inc., a privately held, Toronto-based firm with more than 75 years in shipping, marine and industrial services, grain trading and port facility services, and real estate development.
